In The Area

The settlement of Cropredy is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was the site of the Civil War ‘Battle of Cropredy Bridge’ in 1644. With the building of the canal system between 1769 and 1790, trade arrived at the village. The canal was originally constructed to transport goods from the Midlands to Oxford, and then via the River Thames to London.

The village of Cropredy lies in the Cherwell valley some five miles north of Banbury and Junction 11 of the M40 Motorway. The Oxford Canal and the River Cherwell flow in parallel through this popular village.

In modern times, leisure has become the focus of the inland waterways, and Cropredy has proved a very popular stopping point along the canal network.  There are excellent moorings, both temporary and permanent, together with a water point and waste disposal facilities.  A very well stocked waterside shop provides a variety of supplies and the newly opened cafe, The Mulberry Cafe, is open every day except Mondays.  It’s located on The Green in the village. www.themulberrycafe.co.uk
